After serving in the war, Albert Paust began at the Deutsche Bücherei as a trainee in 1919, and remained there in various different functions until 1957. From 1920 until 1922 he led the War Office, for whose concluding work he was responsible and whose history he outlined in 1921. In the years after 1939 he continued to be responsible for the development of a new war collection, whose first items were shown to the public in an exhibition.
